At an office in Burrough Court, feeling creatively frustrated and spotting the opportunity for designer slippers, Neil and Isabel created the brand on scraps of paper when sat around a coffee table.
Neil and Isabel developed the first collection of 15 luxury ladies slippers designs and sell them to select London based boutiques via footwear tradeshows. “Neil would say he did all the work in the early days and the first slippers were made from pig leather, with marabou feathers and cow leather soles!”
Biannual ranges of slippers are developed for Spring Summer and Autumn Winter to reflect the fashion seasons. “All made using real leathers and sheepskin sourced from the best tanneries across Europe.”
The brand is launched in Liberty London and Bon Marche Paris. “Recognising our super couture approach to the humble slipper.”
The first capsule nightwear collection launches for Autumn Winter. “Victoria Beckham gets some thigh high sheepskin boots as a pressie!”
Ruby + Ed attend shows internationally in Paris and Vegas. They reach the Australian market and the first ecommerce site and mail order catalogue is launched in September.
Ruby + Ed take a trip to Val d’Isere to shoot their beautiful Autumn Winter collection that is made up of pure Italian Silk, Cashmere and Toscana sheepskin.
Ruby + Ed launches in Selfridges and Brown Thomas, Dublin. European distribution is expanded into new countries. “We start to realise that maybe there is a commercial opportunity here as opposed to a bit of fun and Naz steps up to manage the brand and immediately names EVERYTHING!”
The Autumn Winter 10 collection is shot in Paris. “Super fun and breathtakingly beautiful - Organised by a super employee Rollo, wherever you are we love you for making this happen!!! Laura G Product development GURU joins and rescues Naz from a considerable range of growing pains as the brand expands!”
“Naz is appointed Brand Director to drive the business forward and super duper organiser Lucy V joins and sorts out our overflowing product cupboard!” For Spring Summer 2011 Ruby + Ed launches their first canvas outdoor lace up shoes ‘as comfortable as their slippers’. The brand launches in Harrods and Heals of London, and stocks the Canadian department store, Holt Renfrew, launching for the first time across the pond.
Ruby + Ed embark on an Eastern adventure launching a capsule range of silk dresses and linen nightwear, handmade in India. For Autumn Winter 12 a range of vintage inspired faux fur coats is launched signifying a new direction for the brand. The brand launches for the first time directly into the celebrated British high street chain Whistles. Sienna Miller is spotted wearing our fur coats.
The Spring Summer 2013 collection expands, including off duty rain macs and the sporty detailed Advantage pumps. We create new reversible Gilets, tribal inspired jersey pieces and our first fur lined nylon jacket. We launch in distinguished Harvey Nichols London for the first time. “Gretel T designer extraordinaire saves the day and becomes the brands first official product DESIGNER!!!”
Building on an established outerwear range, Ruby + Ed introduced more lightweight parkas, and stylish accessories including tote bags and lightweight knitwear. AW14 sees the launch of the new, limited edition Brit Candy range, colourful striped faux fur accessories designed and produced in the UK. Ruby + Ed are now pleased to announce we are officially PETA approved, meaning the production of our faux fur is completely animal friendly! “No animals were harmed in the making of our furry collection!”
Ruby + Ed launches largest coat & accessory collection to date. The new collection ‘An Exchanted Anthology’ combines a beautiful variety of classic and modern coats and accessories, alongside a wide range of luxury slippers.
The Editor of Vogue Alexandra Shulman wore her customised ‘Team Vogue’ bomber Jacket twice at London Fashion Week and to her very own Vogue: Voice of Century Party. The Editor of Elle Lorraine Candy was seen wearing her customised ‘Team Elle’ faux fur Bomber Jacket. Ruby+Ed won ‘Best Faux Fur Brand’ at the PETA Fashion Awards 2016!
International supermodel Missy Rayder wears the Mink jacket from our AW17 collection. During the same period, she was also the face of a Miu Miu campaign alongside Kate Moss.
Made in Chelsea star Billie Carrol is spotted wearing our Smoke Jacket as she continues to support and wear her Ruby+Ed faux fur.
